RESPECT
Romans 13
To begin with I want to thank the entire staff at The Trinity Journal for an honest and fair representation of the continuously fluctuating mood of this community. All of the stories and opinions are written and allowed expression without showing favoritism and the facts as they are known in an unbiased and respectful manner. This is not fake or biased news. Thank you Wayne and staff.
I have used the opinion/feedback section of this newspaper many times over many years and have never been disappointed by deleted or edited content. I believe it is very important for anyone using this section to have their personal opinion represented verbatim. Thank you Lee Hamilton for your knowledgeable insight. I agree.
So, now I believe it is time to speak up about what I believe to be the disrespectful attitude many people are displaying. I have been disappointed by this, but not surprised. I have read the opinion pages over the last several weeks and it just seems to me that the disrespect, slander, hateful and derogatory language is escalating. All directed at a person or persons that, if given the opportunity or benefit of the doubt, might just be able to correct a variety of problems that have defied resolution up to this time. That is, if they do it following the rule of law and not as an authoritarian state. We don’t know because these corrective measures have not been used before. If they fail then we move on. We don’t have to agree with what our leaders do, or necessarily like them or support their agenda, but we do have to respect their elected offices and remember that as a Democratic nation the majority of the people voted them in to office and we should, as mature responsible adults, honor that. If our preferred candidates were holding office and performing as we like we would want the opposition to respect that. Freedom is not free and we should not take it for granted. It takes effort, involvement, diligence, sacrifice, and service to maintain it. This nation will not stand the test of time if we don’t come together in unity. In Luke 11:17 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall.”
It seems to me that we hold our privileges and entitlements as Americans in higher regard than the obligation we all have of thanking our God for His provision and supporting this nation by maintaining, through service, the freedoms we all have and expect our children to eventually enjoy. Not even to mention the arrogance, self-centeredness, and superior attitude that we display to the world. Why is it so difficult for us to put others first and give and share our resources and abundance? We have so much abundance yet so many only think of themselves and of accumulating more. Where is the gratitude? In Acts 20:35 The Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” And in Luke 6:38 Jesus said: “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Bad, wrong, or negative attitudes, mindsets or habits can all be changed and replaced by their exact opposites if we truly want to. The seven deadly sins of greed, pride, gluttony, lust, sloth, wrath and envy are all inspired by fear of something or someone and can all be overcome by developing a relationship with God and surrendering your life to Him. He only has the very best that this life can offer for us and it won’t look the same from person to person. It’s so simple and all we have to do is ask Him (Jeremiah 29:11-13).
Let’s speak and act like the adult people God created us to be and not like little children who throw tantrums when they don’t get their way. Respect one another and never stop meeting together as it says in Hebrews 10:25--“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another.” Romans 12:9-10 says “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
Love and Peace, Amen
